7 Cities with the Cleanest Air

People usually do not consciously think about the quality of the air they breathe every day. But, according to the WHO, 92% of the global population lives in places with poor air quality. One of the most affected countries affected by such problems is the USA. Even though there is a Clean Air Act, which was passed to improve the quality of air, there are only a few US cities with the cleanest air.

A look at the top 7 cities in the US with the cleanest air

1. Burlington-South Burlington, Vermont
Each year, Vermont is considered the cleanest place in the US in terms of air quality. But, the Burlington area has consistently outshone other cities with record zero days of unhealthy ozone levels and short-term pollution.

2. Williston, North Dakota
For years Williston has received high marks for its clean and pollution-free air, but the wildfires in the West have brought hazy and smoky air into the city. However, Williston has zero to no ozone pollution. The air in the city is clean thanks to the constant wind present in the state, which ushers out polluted air and brings in clean winds, making it the second cleanest city.

3. Springfield, Massachusetts
Springfield in Massachusetts is a small city located 100 miles west of Boston. It offers some of the best and cleanest air in the country. The reason behind this is the anti-idling laws, which are aimed at reducing air pollution in the area.

4. Evanston, Wyoming
In 2018, Wyoming proposed to implement some rules to reduce the emission of methane from infrastructure in the state. As a benefit of these regulations, Evanston has become the number 4 city in the US with the cleanest air.

5. Farmington, New Mexico
This city has some of the cleanest air in the country when it comes to particle pollution. Farmington tied with Cheyenne, Wyoming for the first place in 2017 for soot-free air. However, the city has to go a long way in terms of air quality. It only has a single operating air quality monitoring station, which collects data every 12 days.

6. Beaver Dam, Wisconsin
In 2018, a clean energy center was opened outside of Portage, Wisconsin, which is a neighboring town of Beaver Dam. A selective catalyst reduction system was installed in the boilers of the power plant, which cut nitrogen emission by half. This technology removed nitrogen and improved the overall air quality of the city.

7. Juneau, Alaska
In US cities with the cleanest air, Juneau, Alaska comes at number 7. The biggest concern in this place is the air pollution emitted from the cruise ships that dock on the shores of the city each summer.
